Property 1: Steeped in history, Airlie Castle makes a dramatic setting for your base for The 150th Open at St Andrews.

Airlie Castle is a 10 minute drive from Kirriemuir, known as 'The Gateway to the Glens', is an hour’s drive to St Andrews and well served by local airports, 30 minutes from Dundee, 90 minutes from Edinburgh and just over an hour from Aberdeen.

The Castle has accommodation for 14 and an additional 4 in the adjoining self-contained cottage. Also within the grounds is Square Cottage which sleeps 4 and is a 2 minute walk from the Castle. However, the Castle is ideally suited to parties of between 14 -16 and comprises 7 bedrooms, sitting room, dining room (seats 10/12) playroom with table tennis table and billiard table.

The area is well known for its range of outdoor pursuits. Golf courses in the area include Kirriemuir, three at Alyth, and the famous championship courses at Rosemount in Blairgowrie and Carnoustie.

Property 2: An historic house along a tree-lined drive, surrounded by fields and moorland, Downiepark House is an elegant location for large gatherings.

Downiepark is an imposing but welcoming house with a large stone-flagged and pillared entrance hall, a stylish two-storey hanging staircase and several beautifully light and spacious oval rooms. The house has been imaginatively refurbished and decorated in a light and occasionally quirky style, with fine fabrics and a selection of antiques dotted throughout.

The magnificent high-ceiling-ed dining room has a large dining table, an open fire and wonderful views, and is the ideal location for sharing a celebratory meal. There is also a charming TV room and a lovely breakfast room, both of which are perfect for relaxing in. There is also a boot room and bathroom on the ground floor.

The lower ground floor features a fully equipped kitchen with additional dining space, and a games room where you can try your hand at table tennis. There is also a cosy twin bedroom on this floor as well as a utility room, larder, bathroom and separate WC.

Heading up the stunning staircase, the first floor offers five beautifully decorated and stylish bedrooms. There are two double rooms with a shared Jack and Jill bathroom, a king-size room with an en-suite bathroom and two double bedrooms, including one built into the oval of the building. There is also an additional bathroom.

Finally, the second floor offers three more bedrooms: two double rooms including one oval room with gorgeous hand-painted walls, and a twin room. There are also two bathrooms on the second floor.

Property 3: Wellbank Cottage has been carefully renovated to create a single-level retreat that’s bursting with character, sleeping eight guests across four bedrooms. Set in a grand estate within the Angus Glens, the property was once used as a steading: a traditional farm and its outbuildings. The secluded location makes this an enchanting bolthole to celebrate special occasions and a special place to stay for The Open Golf.

The cottage is delightfully cosy throughout, freshly painted with bright neutral tones and lovingly styled with traditional furniture and homely details. The addition of a roaring open fire and an Aga enhances the timeless charm, with a few contemporary touches such as ambient lighting and a very well-equipped kitchen.

The comfortable lounge is a treat for the senses, where you can curl up in comfort in front of the fire or open the door out to the extensive garden. Even the most reluctant of cooks will fall in love with the fantastic kitchen, which is a masterpiece of design with sleek worktops, unique lighting, and a dark wood floor. The AGA-style oven, mismatched chairs and antique dresser strike an interesting contrast, making this a quirky spot for perching with your morning coffee.

The master king-size has an en-suite, and there is a family-size bathroom for the remaining three bedrooms. Depending on what suits your party, the two double bedrooms can be converted into twins on request.

Outside, your private garden has marvelous views across the estate, with sweeping lawns, ancient trees and glimpses of the surrounding glens and Munros. There’s also a patio with garden furniture, perfect for enjoying a glass of something special.
